Manufacturing Skill Standards Council's (MSSC) new Green Production Module, (GPM), 7:45 am - 1:45 pm, October 18 at the Doubletree Downtown Hotel in Dayton, Ohio.
This meeting will launch the first industry-recognized, nationally portable credential focused entirely on enhancing the "green production" skills of front-line production workers in all sectors of manufacturing. It will thus go beyond the manufacture of "green products" per se (e.g., solar panels, wind turbines) to enhance the "greening" of the entire manufacturing sector of the economy.
MSSC's GPM will add a fifth Module to the four production modules (Safety; Quality Practices & Measurement; Manufacturing Processes & Production; Maintenance Awareness) already contained in the well-established MSSC Certified Production Technician (CPT) certification system. The October 18 meeting will be a milestone in the new national movement to utilize industry-recognized, nationally portable certifications as the solution to the nation's pressing need for a higher skilled, front-line industrial workforce.
This Launch Event will provide valuable information on company uses, best practices and federal-state strategies for accelerating the use of GPM. Hear the nation's leading experts on this topic and learn how this green production program can bring American manufacturing into the 21stcentury to the highest global standard for sustainability and environmental enhancement. Speakers will include industry leaders in the sustainability field, senior federal officials, union representatives and the GPM Development Team.

With the theme “Train-Certify-Employ,” this Summit will be a milestone in the new national movement behind using industry-recognized, nationally portable certifications as the solution to the nation’s pressing need for a higher skilled, front-line industrial workforce. This will be the first, high-level national conference on this topic.
Supported by the Texas Workforce Commission and hosted by Workforce Solutions North Central Texas, this Summit will provide valuable information on company uses, best practices and federal-state strategies for accelerating the use of national certifications. Hear the nation’s leading experts on this topic and participate in “how to” breakout sessions on ways to use and fund certifications as the basis for company, high school, and postsecondary workforce training and jobs programs.
To build on an existing success story in national certification, the Summit will focus on implementation of two training and certification systems: the Certified Logistics Technician (CLT) and Certified Production Technician (CPT) certifications offered by the nationwide Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC).
Jane Oates, Assistant Secretary of Labor, Employment and Training, US Department of Labor, will be the luncheon speaker. Other plenary speakers will include: industry leaders assembled by the Hillwood Alliance Global Logistics Hub (a Perot company), Gregg Mitchell, President of Trinity Logistics, career-tech education community leaders, and the heads of two leading certification bodies: APICS and MSSC. In addition, the conference will go beyond U.S. borders to include strategies for implementing certifications along the vital trade arteries between Mexico, the Central States and Canada.
